Architecture
The architecture of CIM DATABASE fulfills the central requirements on a globally available and highly scalable PDM/PLM platform that can be flexibly integrated.
It encapsulates significant aspects such as business process logic, dialog presentation, document storage, database storage, job services and other dedicated architectural components. It forms the basis for outstanding multisite capability, update capability and maintainability.
Servers and services
Application servers provide technical services and offer the business process logic to interactive clients. They use centralised or distributed file and database storage, and function as content servers offering web access to objects and transactions.
Dedicated job servers are used for automatically processing background tasks such as converting CAD formats, correlating with ERP systems such as SAP, ReportJobs, etc.
Client and desktop integration
CIM DATABASE supports users by providing central PDM/PLM services and data tailored to the requirements and the profile of users, by means of:
- Outstanding capability to integrate CAD and Office applications, using standardised middleware services in some cases
- Easiest possible deployment by thin clients and server-side encapsulation of the business process logic
- Interfaces with native Windows Look&Feel for power users or web interfaces for external users for integrating into the company portal, etc.

CIM DATABASE supports straightforward homogenous system environments as well as complex heterogeneous ones, by means of:
- CAD integration for Windows and Unix desktops (via terminal server)
- Native client for Windows, web client for Internet Explorer, Mozilla, etc.
- Server components for Windows, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris.
