Main subjects CATIA Data Management, Engineering Collaboration, Mechatronics

Wolfsburg / Bremen, 20th July 2007 – Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze GmbH (SEBN), leading supplier of electric components, will establish the PLM-solution CIM DATABASE to support its product development processes. As manufacturer of cablings as well as control and bus devices for the automotive industry Sumitomo is going to use CIM DATABASE to execute and control its development process unerringly. Particular attention during the evaluation was given to the collaboration within the international SEBN organisation and at the globally operating Japanese based holding. In April 2006 it acquired the former Volkswagen subsidiary VW Bordnetze GmbH to strengthen the cooperation with European automotive manufacturers.

CIM DATABASE supports global product development through the use of intelligent replication mechanisms and optimized communication protocols for Wide Area Networks (WANs). For Masato Iguchi, as CEO of SEBN also responsible for the development division, it is crucial, that the new PLM solution is able to reproduce the processes around the development of mechatronic products and their complex configuration seamlessly and extensivly.

Sumitomo plans to implement an extensive set of features already at the first step of its PLM roadmap. Starting points are the CAD Data Management for CATIA V5 and V4, support for Engineering Change Management, configuration management of mechatronic products and the idea of a virtual project office, which provides valid data and documents around the product development process for all participants. The first step of the roadmap also includes data management functions for the E-CAD systems LCable an LDorado, product structure management and parts characteristics to support the reuse of existing product know-how. CONTACT Software’s one-stop delivery includes the PLM platform CIM DATABASE and complete professional services including specification, implementation and training.

Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze GmbH employs about 11.000 staff at 18 locations e.g. in Germany, Spain, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Morocco and China.
